More is not always better.  Stud deflection and subsequent ejection is the leading failure mode of any offroad studded tire.  The VortX, built from the battle proven IRC VE-33 Volcanduro tire, is engineered from its core to handle maximum winter abuse.  Aside from the center rectangular tread with two studs, each of the burly square intermediate and shoulder knobs holds a single 22mm long stud, counting an even 200 per tire.  Maximum rubber volume supporting the stud in each knob, and the limber flexible carcass of this tire combine to deliver excellent durability and performance.  In short, the knobs will roll/twist, and the carcass will flex before the stud deflects in the knob.  Weighing in at under 16 pounds for an 18″ or 19″ rear, this pattern reduces the inertia effect common to winter studs, making your chassis feel closer to its warm weather character.  From careful crawling to wide-open shredding, this tire just keeps on proving them wrong.
